Mind over Matter: Why Mental Health Matters

Raising awareness on Mental Health and Wellbeing is so important and this insight article follows as session that I delivered at the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Some salient points shared included:

·       Mental health is a basic human right.

·       Your best performing people could be the ones who are experiencing a mental health challenge too.

·       Mental wellbeing enables one to work well and to learn effectively. This counts for children and young people too. Take care of their mental wellbeing and have a nurturing and supportive environment at home.

·       Different people react and cope differently to challenges and stressors…do not judge.

·       Mental health changes and is dynamic. There are many things that you can do to make it better. How?

💡 Check your thought patterns

💡 Nurture your spirit – be it mindfulness, meditation or prayer

💡 Get 7-8 hours of sleep

💡 Nurture your relationships

💡 Connect with those around you (not on social media only)

💡 Make healthy life choices – exercise and a healthy diet make a difference!

💡 Do something you enjoy

REMEMBER….You are not alone! If you are experiencing mental health issues…REACH OUT!

Your family, friends and colleagues can help you, as is your family doctor and counsellors. Malta’s National Support line is 179.

Above all know yourself and reflect on these questions:

·       What impacts your mental health positively? Negatively?

·       What actions can you take today and in the coming weeks to improve your mental health?
